After spending 1:32:29 on Steve Job's iPhone sales pitch, sorry, my dear apple loving cousin, I have to do this.
Aside from agreeing all the praise from people who has(the Gizmodo dude), and hasn't touched "the phone", I just can't shake this urge to post something that might sound nasty, but without voicing these following questions, I won't be able to rest tonight.(Keep reading...)
1. Yes, the phone design is definitely stylish and elegant, but don't you notice that when the screen is off, it just look like a bigger version of black pocket pc?
2. The black background of the "Home" Menu creates impression of full frontal surface screen. Kudo to the design team on the optical illusions well executed.
3. Steve's explanation on the cable that attached to the demo iPhone was not really convicing. I can't help but formulate the following theories:
- a. The cable is the power source, since the phone might not be fully ready.
- b. The cable acts as medium to transfer the command from the iPhone to some desktop that has iPhone emulator running. So what the audience actually seen on the screen is the acutally what's on the emulator.
b. is more likely the case. Which means the reason why this is done can go from
"iPhone is definitely working, but to create the WoW effect for the presentation, a crispy image from the emulator is definitely a better choice"
to
"@ the current stage, iPhone is just a input/output device, all the magic we saw is actually running on some emulator on Mac @ the back, and iPhone just routed the input, and display the screen on the remote emulator like a terminal service client".
It's raised more of my eyebrow when the Gizmodo dude says that the one he played with is not the final version. However, I will be neutral, and bet somewhere(iPhone is working but not perfect) in between for the truth.
4. When Steve called people in the audience, the people who received the call are supposedly to be in the iPhone team. But none of them are using a iPhone. Is this because of security reason? or the prototype is just too hot to handle still? you name it.
5. $499 + 2 years contract with Cingular? and I can still have SIM locking problem, even if I'm willing to pay Cingular to get the phone, but to use my T-mobile service? No wonder, Steve blow past that part really quickly.
Apple definitely has something there no doubt, I am even willing to say that iPhone sales will break Steve's expectation easily *if and only if* they deliver everything shown today. Vapor ware is the thing of the past, and big company, like Apple, isn't stupid enough to do this. But to drive up the stock price, people are willing to do anything these days. If you have seen the splendid "Flash"y internal demo of Windows Vista several years back, you will understand.
I am feeling for MS Mobile people now, they must be scrambling after this. And I sure wish it is worth the hype, not because of it's an Apple, but it's a product that will push the limit of human imagination.
Ok, signing off now.

As expected, the appearance of iPhone lets you have a lot of words to say. I really want to buy a PDA recently and really admire for the windows mobile 5.0 system. I want to scold Steve too, because iPhone has extended the battery characteristic of iPod, it can not be took apart. It's a big problem for people who use other cell-phones to get used to it. Too expensive, may be just for vanity to buy it.
To tell the truth , while knowing iPhone originally , I really wanted to buy one , but when I carefully think about it, while I could buy a very steady system with less prices, it's enough , at least I might have a very good excuse to buy another new one in two years.
An apple-user like me, don't even have an interest to buy iPhone right now, well, Steve should make a self-criticism .
(oh my god......my poor english)
